The Abilene Pipers were founded February 2001.Robert Partin is the founding member of the Abilene Pipers. He,along with Iain Morrison, Grant Rice and Daniel Fryar started the group in February of 2001. Iain and Grant were transferred out of Abilene by the USAF. Daniel graduated from ACU and now works and lives in Colorado. Upon their departure, Luke Senter met up with Robert and their goal was to make the Abilene Pipers a proper performing pipe band. They have been meeting weekly and performing together since 2002 and have seen old members and students come and go, but are slowly growing. There are now eight performing members and students.

The Abilene Pipers have performed at local weddings, funerals, birthday parties, Burns Suppers, Art Walk, multiple Erinshire Folk Festivals, church services, Hawley Parade, Hamlin parades, Rochester parades, Rotan parades, Merkel parade, Vietnam Wall Experience in September of 2003, Dyess Open House, Dyess Burns Suppers hosted by BrigGen David Been, Fallen Texas Police Officers Memorial for over 20 years, Sayles Neighborhood Association Parties, 2005 Blues N Rock Gazette Readers Choice Award Show, 2005 De Leon Peach and Melon Festival, Brownwood Lyric Theatre's production of Brigadoon, Political rallies, Play Faire Park festivals including the Mead Fest and the Play Faire Folk Fest, West Texas Rehab Televised Telethons, Veterans Day services, Texas Ranger Memorial Services, Memorial Day services, birthday parties, etc...
